Low-slung, and with an expertly crafted moulded seat and back (no more bike pumps needed), the LCW cradles you in a comfortable position; rubber shock mounts between the back, seat, and frame buffer against any jarring movements. Eames studied the structure of the bones of the human body in order to perfect their moulding. Modelled and tested hundreds of times, the final chair has two parts: the back and the petal-shaped seat. The Eames' experiments with moulding plywood into organic forms yielded this design icon. When Time named this chair the Best Design of the 20th Century, the editors described it as “something elegant, light, and comfortable. Much copied, but never bettered.”
Charles and Ray Eames through the creative process of applying heat and pressure to wood veneers. This innovative method gave birth to a virtually seamless chair that adheres to ergonomic standards of the human body. The original designed Eames molded plywood chair was a boldy inovative breakthough when it was introduced in 1946.
Comfortable, practical and lightweight, it looks as contemporary now as it did then - a modest chair that has come to represent the best of modern design. Low-slung, lightweight and built for longevity, our LCW chair replica is true to the original icon.
